    New member Scotland

    Hi,

New member here from Scotland here. Just bought a 2009 model 883 low, mainly ridden by my partner but I’m sure I’ll put a few miles on it too.

Until now not a Harley rider so dipping a toe in the water with this one! Already changed the pullback bars for 48 bars (straight swap, no drama) I can see a few more changes on the horizon, longer shocks, relocated ecm, shorter rear mudguard and a funkier seat.

Only minor issue is a leaky gear change shaft seal but it’s onLy a few £ and supposedly an easy fix so it’s all good...so far!

Looking forward to picking the collective brain of the forum.

    Cheers,
    DavieL

    Hello DavieL,

Welcome to the forum from Calderdale in West Yorkshire, where in Scotland are you?

I'm originally from Dufftown in Banffshire, I've been living in Halifax for 52 years now.

Like Whistler, I'm an Iron owner, mine is of 2011 vintage.

The gear shift oil seal is easy to replace, best to invest in a genuine workshop manual, the paper manuals are pricey at around £75. If that's too steep you can buy a digital version on ebay for around nine or ten pounds. The Carl Salter manuals website has genuine manuals for free download, they don't have a 2009 Sportster manual but they do have a 2010 one.

The gear shifter oil seal is H-D part number 37107-06, they cost £4.76 from mainland H-D dealerships.
