    3 pin or 4 pin?

Looking at my data port, where the tuner data cable plugs in, on my sportster 2013 it looks like it is a 4 pin connector though there are only 3 pins present.
I'm sure there should only be 3 pins but could someone confirm it please?

    Hi Westy,

For 2007 to 2013 Sportsters inclusive DLC (Data Link Connector), the wiring inside the socket is as below :-

    Position 1 = Not Used.
    Position 2 = Black.
Position 3 = Light Green and Violet.
    Position 4 = Grey.

    Hope that's helped you.

Top man Bluenose, exactly what I wanted to hear. I thought that was the case but wanted to double check.

    Hi Westy,

If you don't have genuine H-D manuals, you can download a 2013 Sportster Service Manual and a 2013 Sportster Electrical Diagnostic Manual for free on the following link. Just scroll down the list to the relevant manuals, click on them and tick the "I'm not a Robot" box and click on the "Download" box, job done.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

Looking at my Super-Tuner Pro leads, there's a USB to tuner lead for a laptop connection and on the output there is a VGA type male output from the tuner to the data port and the data port plug looks like two rows of three sockets on the plug to male pins on the bike with a rectangular locating socket in between the two rows of three on the plug. Sounds different to the earlier bikes.

HD motorcycles with the 4 pin deutsch data port connector use the J1850 protocol, and HD motorcycles equipped with the new 6 pin deutsch data port connector use the newer CAN protocol

Bloody hell.....I have only just about worked out how to use XP Pro!

(actually that's a lie - I'm OK with PCs, but I would be happier if they ran on petrol with carbs).
