    Cool The Eagle has landed!

    [Sing it to me!]

Well there she sits buddy just a-gleaming in the sun
There to greet a working man when his day is done...

Finally: I have taken possession of a beautiful Sportster – a Harley XL1200CA Custom. I’ve been looking since the beginning of the year and now (21st May) I finally have my very own Harley. What a journey! What a day! The whole purchase process itself has clarified my thinking: like Bud, I want a ‘mile muncher’ of a motorbike.

The brief: Procure a late Harley Custom in amber-whiskey or red-black from the south of England or Wales.

    Must haves:
    • Under 5000 miles
    • ABS
    • Black engine
    • Fat front tyre

Budget: £9000 (including tax & insurance)

    Customisation prerequisites:

    • Mustang or Sundowner solo seat
    • H-D Quick-Release Screen
    • Uprated suspension
    • Highway pegs
    • Longer mirrors
    • Pulled-back handlebars
    • Louder exhaust

    Outcome: 1 x 2016 Harley-Davidson XL1200CA from Cheltenham H-D with less than 3500 miles.

Success in nearly all areas; I even got a one year Harley Originals Warranty! The only exceptions are exhaust and forks. Loud exhaust is cool, but after a few hours, it becomes just another headache so I have changed my mind and will stay with stock. I still want to change the fork springs for Hagon progressives, but I simply can’t afford to at the moment.

I am in the process of uploading a few short videos, which is taking forever. Here are the links so far (be patient if one does not work). The first is the roll-out at Cheltenham, the last was just before I put her to bed for a couple of days:

VIDEOS WILL NOW BE EMBEDDED IN LATER POSTS (74 onwards)

Right now, I just wanted to share the joy (‘cos it’s really big!), and to say a huge THANK YOU to those of you who’ve been involved with me during my search. Since most of you have already made this journey, you have acquired both wisdom and empathy: you know and really understand! It feels great to be among such company.

    Thank you all!

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Ok Chris,

Bike's looking good, I wouldn't worry too much about that small scratch on the tank, after all it's a two year old motorcycle. Blemishes like that give the machine an individual patina.

If you'd like one of my stainless steel anti-tamper seat mounting screw kits for that nice custom seat, just send me a PM with your delivery address and I'll send you one free of charge.

I bet along with the overall feeling of joy there was a massive sigh of relief, Chris.....

By the way - who is Joy that you are feeling? Wife perhaps?

That's very astute Al - yes, apart from being supa-dupa happy, I am relieved too! Long, long, journey...

Not sure how I much I like you feeling my Joy though. (You looking for a hot meat pie right beneath the eye?!)

(Thanks again Dave - yea, the ding isn't anything I worry about. As you suggest, from now it's not a ding, it's patina. )

    Cheers,

    Chris

Perhaps join up with the Sportster Sickness if that is your thing and share your joy with about 3000 other nut cases.

We had a ride out to Silverstone as an example at the beginning of April and there was approximately 650 Sportsters on show. Some videos are on youtube Sportster sickness the big one take 3.

Unfortunately the videos are not opening for me. However if I take the funny number and make the url
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ii9gGb_458
    it works.

    Your bike looks great.

I like the look of the seat. I do ride 2 up so would also need a passenger pad. They are a bit pricey that is for sure.

Just one thing though, is it ever going to have a 2 up seat? Did you consider removing the passenger pegs?

Comment the highway pegs might loosen up. If they do then it will be time to change the special packing washer else they will rattle like mad.

It may just be me, but Chris, whilst all your links you provided on here work if I click your youtube user name on youtube there's nothing there.

Nice bike Chris, it’s pretty much the same as mine but with a different design on the tank. Got the Hagon shocks, Mustang seat and exactly the same windshield. Orange and black is very cool, if you ask me. Enjoy.
