Need help has anybody got a 2016 roadster?

Hi everyone Iím mike, I recently bought a 2016 xl 1200 cx roadster. Now my problem is when Iím trying to insure it all insurance companies are saying the bike does not exist even HD insurance. They say the xl 1200 cx roadster is from 2017 but on my log book it is xl 1200 cx roadster 2016. When I put my reg into the insurance search it comes up as a xl 1200 c custom but when I do a search on the internet it is saying xl 1200 cx roadster. Now itís not just my reg. I have tried loads of 2016 roadster number plates and they are all saying the same. So if anyone has a 2016 roadster that can help I would appreciate it because as it stands because my bike canít be found by the insurance company it can not be insured.

Hi Whistler, I have contacted my local dealer who I bought the bike from and also dvla and they both say it’s an xl 1200 cx roadster 2016. I have also contacted Harley-Davidson customer service and give them all the details of my bike.

Use the VIN number to check exactly what it is on the main HD website.

Well, find a way to copy the detail from the HD website (screenshot, say) and email it to the insurers - also, the VIN number will tell you when, where, what capacity, model; recalls etc etc.

    Something like this might help:

    Hi Mike,

Your XL12OOCX Roadster will be a 2017 model, that was officially the models first year.

The answer to your problem is simple, Harley-Davidson's new model year bikes are released for sale in mid August of the previous year and they go on sale so the 2017 models went on sale in mid August 2016.

If your 1200 Roadster was registered on a 16 plate in August 2016, or on a 66 plate between September 1st and December 31st 2016, it's still a 2017 model year bike not a 2016 one.

There were no Roadster's in H-D's 2016 portfolio in either 883cc or 1200cc.

You can never go by your registration document, it just states what the selling dealership tells the DVLA. If they give incorrect information, that's what you get on the registration document.

I once owned a Russian Voskhod MT3 Tula 200, this strange looking machine was a snow bike which was build for the Russian military to patrol the Russian / Finnish border. My Tula was built in 1992, it was kept unused in a Russia military compound for years, in 1998 finally it arrived in the UK and was registered on an "R" plate as a 1998 machine.

My Tula was stolen and set on fire by children in February 1999, the bike was damaged beyond repair, I made a claim from my insurance company. The insurance company asked for all my details, registration number, make and model, year of manufacture etc. They as me for the M.O.T. certificate, I told them the bike was first registered in 1998 less than a year ago, they told me if it was manufactured in 1992, it needs an M.O.T. certificate. I banged by head on the wall a few times before explaining to them that the 3 year period for it's first M.O.T. test starts after the bikes first registration date, not from the year of manufacture. So much for Carole Nash insurance, they didn't have a policy for a Voskhod Tula, so they insured it as a Suzuki TS250 instead.

    A Voskhod MT3 Tula.

Getting back to the topic Mike, for insurance purposes your Roadster is a 2017 model year. Hope that's helped you.

    Ok AL,

The VIN number will give the date of manufacture, not the model year.

Yes it does - well, it does for mine 2007 and mine is in theory a one-off year; differences between 2006 and 2008.

But you can still use this as well - stick registration number in and it will tell you when made and when first registered.

Bluenose has it nailed here, my iron 883 was registered Oct 2015 but it's a 2016 model with the new tank art and machined wheel highlights, means I order 2016 parts not 2015 have to watch that some times.
