    Battery death

The battery on my 1992 1200 sportster has decided to die a dignified death, the question that i have is what is the correct replacement, the shop from where i bought her demanded to know; 'where did you get that?'(battery) when i took it to be matched up, and no motorcycle we have supplied will have been fitted with one of those; i have been supplied with a yuasa ytx20l-bs, but the terminals are the wrong ends for fitting to my sportster: how can buying a battery be such hard work!

    Hello Robbie,

Sorry to hear about your battery woes.

The correct YUASA battery for a 1987 - 1996 XL1200 Sportster is YTX20HL-BS. The negative terminal should be on the left and the positive on the right.

    A YTX20L-BS is for later 1997 - 2003 Sportster's. Negative left, positive right.

Rubber mounted Sportster's 2004 - up, require a YTX14-BS. Negative left, positive right.
